About Barmag pumps<\/h3>\n

Barmag high-precision gear metering pumps are used worldwide as precision process control components in a huge range of applications involving metering of liquid chemicals, processing plastics and polymers, and metering paints, dyes and oils.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, Barmag produces metering pumps for the textile industry and other sectors. Barmag is one of the leading providers of man-made fibre filament spinning systems, texturing machines, bulk continuous filament (BCF) systems, staple fibres systems and solutions for the production of nonwovens. With its range of polycondensation and extrusion systems and their key components, Barmag caters to the entire manufacturing process \u2013 from the monomer all the way through to the textured yarn \u2013 and supports it with customer-oriented engineering services.<\/span><\/p>\n

With around 2,500 employees worldwide, Barmag has a presence in 120 countries with production, sales and distribution and service organisations. At the Research and Development centres in Remscheid, Neum\u00fcnster (Germany), and Suzhou\n (China), highly qualified engineers, technologists and technicians develop innovative and advanced products for tomorrow\u2019s world.

History<\/h4>\n

Founded in 1922 in Germany, Barmag established itself as a pioneer in manufacturing high-precision metering and spinning pumps for the synthetic fibre industry. Over the past century Barmag pumps evolved from early rayon production\n to advanced, high-viscosity applications for polymers, nylon, polyester and polyurethane (PUR), becoming a global standard for specialised, high-precision industrial pumps.

Founding and Early Years (1922\u20131940s)<\/h5>\n

The company was founded as Barmer Maschinenfabrik AG (Barmag) in 1922, in Barmen, Germany. It was created as a joint venture between German and Dutch synthetic fibre makers (AKU\/Glanzstoff group) to manufacture machines for viscose\n (rayon) production. The spinning pump was a core product from the start, designed to force liquid precisely through nozzles to create filaments. In 1925, headquarters moved to Remscheid-Lennep, which remains a primary site today.<\/p>\n

Expansion and Innovation (1950s\u20131980s)<\/h5>\n

After significant factory destruction in WWII, Barmag resumed operations in 1947. In the 1950s, the company pivoted to meet the demand for purely synthetic fibres like polyamide (nylon) and polyester, developing new pumps to handle\n these high-pressure melt-spinning processes. Barmag established major international subsidiaries, including American Barmag Corporation in 1965 and ventures in Brazil, Hong Kong, India and China through the 1970s and 80s.
<\/span><\/p>\n

Modern Era and Diversification (1990s\u2013Present)<\/h5>\n

Barmag became part of the Saurer Group in the early 2000s. In 2007, it was acquired by the Swiss Oerlikon Group, becoming Oerlikon Barmag. While rooted in textiles, the pump division expanded into non-textile applications, including\n chemical processing, automotive and packaging industries, and high-viscosity media like silicones and adhesives. As of its 100th anniversary in 2022, the company had produced approximately 1.75 million pumps since the end of WWII.<\/p>\n

In February 2026, Rieter completed the acquisition of Barmag to become the world\u2019s leading technology provider for the production of both natural and synthetic fibres, and for turning natural and man-made fibres into filaments, yarns\n and nonwovens. Barmag continues to innovate, producing specialist pumps for chemical processing, polymer extrusion, surface coating and precise flow control applications.<\/p>\n

About Intercontrol Metering Pumps Ltd.<\/h3>\n

Intercontrol has been proudly supplying Barmag pumps to the UK and Irish market for 20 years. Initially headed by Eddy Britton, and later by Cengiz Philcox. Intercontrol provides sales, service and technical support for the complete\n range of Barmag pumps throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. We conduct site visits, technical evaluation, specification, quotation and supply of equipment and spare parts, with ongoing technical support as required \u2013 all with\n the close collaboration of the technical and sales teams at Barmag. We can offer loose components and spares or built-up assemblies of pump units with motors, drives and flexible or magnetic couplings. We also offer evaluation, repair\n and refurbishment of used and damaged pumps, back to good-as-new condition at the factory in Remscheid.<\/p>\n

We work with various partners to offer other products and services outside of the scope of the Barmag range where required, including upgrades and conversions to magnetic drive or supply of spare parts, service and repair of other\n pump brands.<\/p>\n
